Okay, I’m going to leave it to you to google what “pasta puttanesca” translates to, but let’s just say this savory meal is an uncomplicated and comforting sensual delight . There’s no shame in its completely unpretentious ingredients. Go ahead and embrace culinary taboos - use canned tomatoes, olives of non-Italian origin, top this fish dish with cheese. My version even omits gluten and garlic. My recipe for this classic Italian dish could have epicurean purists clutching their pearls, but you’ll be in the throes of ecstasy when you give it a try.

This week I am thrilled to announce The Sort’s first ever Guest Sorter, Jenny Le.

I first met Jenny when she was the den mother at Opening Ceremony LA. Whether you were there to shop or just be a looky-loo, she fostered a warm, inclusive and joyful atmosphere at what could have been an intimidating retail space. She always supported her crew like family and championed emerging artists and designers.

Jenny fled her native land, Hue, Vietnam when she was 4 years old with her mom. She learned English by way of Sergio Leone's spaghetti westerns. Nowadays, she makes soundscapes when she is not running the show at Dries Van Noten Los Angeles.

Ah, new construction. Sure everything works like a charm, but why must it have no charm? I mean sure it has all the charm of a gas station bathroom, but as a loo for guests and as my little sanctuary for personal care, I want to make it as pleasant as possible. Perhaps in half a century it’ll have the same vintage appeal our 1930’s bathroom did, but that will be for someone else and their guests to enjoy. 

We aren’t up for a major renovation project at the moment, so I have been finding little ways to give the room some warmth and appeal until we can muster the gumption to replace the depressing grey stone with something more attractive.
